Rafiya Peerbhoy Khan, MS, CHS
President and CEO
Ms. Rafiya Peerbhoy Khan is the founder and president of SAMAR. She is a microbiologist from the University of Bombay. Her career started in organ transplantation. Mrs. Khan is a certified Immunogenetic and Histocompatibility Specialist and is involved in clinical Immunology. Due to her experience in the field of HLA at a leading cancer hospital, she is a great asset to the organization in terms of patient support. Due to her selfless efforts on behalf of SAMAR, she has received several Congressional, Senatorial, Mayoral and Community Awards.

Moazzam Khan
Director of Community Outreach and Recruitment
Moazzam A. Khan has an extensive background in advertising, where he was the director of marketing and research and was a corporate liaison for many clients. He is currently SAMAR’s Director of Community Outreach, handling all aspects SAMAR’s public relations and media contacts. Mr. Khan has been integral in organizing each SAMAR coordinated drive and training every volunteer about the various drive protocols. Due to his selfless efforts on behalf of SAMAR, he has received several Congressional, Senatorial, Mayoral and Community Awards.
Vikramjit Chabra
Lead Coordinator of New England Chapter
Vikram has been part of the SAMAR family since 1998. He has been actively involved in organizing and conducting drives throughout the east coast and along with his wife Roop Jyot been the face of SAMAR in the New England area. His personal interests include martial arts, writing and being a good husband and dad.
Roop Jyot Kaur, PhD
Donor Callback Specialist, Recruiter
Roop has been an active member of SAMAR ever since her marriage to Vikram in 2004. Rashi is a PhD in Psychology and is a very talented singer trained in Indian Classical music and keenly interested in ghazal singing and Urdu poetry. Along with Vikram she is part of SAMAR's efforts of increasing community awareness and supporting patient families in the New England area. She is the lead coordinator for the callback project of making initial contact with our potential donors
Jyoti Johal
Lead Coordinator, Philadelphia Chapter
Jyoti is currently a special education teacher in Philadelphia and is pursuing a masters degree to become a principal. Although she has volunteered many years to various causes, SAMAR became a big part of her life after a close friend was looking for a marrow. She continues to volunteer to keep the memory of her dear friend Bevin alive forever.
Poornima Vijayanagar
Lead Coordinator of Washington D.C. , MD, VA Chapter
Poornima has been a volunteering for SAMAR for over four years coordinating drives in the Washington Metro area.
Sajjad Ahmed
Computer Administrator, Senior Recruiter
Sajjad has been a part of SAMAR since November 2003, a few months after he registered to be a potential marrow/blood cell donor. Since then, he has been involved in many of SAMAR’s projects, including the creation of new training and promotional material and overseeing SAMAR’s website redesign. He is currently working as an Analyst for a TV Rep Firm and still continues to be a part of SAMAR.
Ron Jacob MD
SecondaryMedical Consultant, Senior Recruiter
Ron graduated from Binghamton University with his B.S. in Psychobiology and a minor in African Studies. He went on to complete his Medical Degree at Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine. He began as a volunteer with SAMAR in the summer of 2007 and joined the SAMAR staff in the fall of 2007. He has been serving as the Secondary Medical Director and has given many educational lectures and training sessions at various venues and conducted multiple drives.
Shashi Kapadia
Student Outreach Coordinator, Senior Recruiter
Shashi has been involved with SAMAR since the spring of 2006. He enjoys interacting with potential donors, as well as planning and administration. Like all of us, Shashi hopes for the day when every patient who needs a transplant will be able to find one in a timely manner. Shashi is currently a second year medical student at The New Jersey Medical School.
Satjeet Kaur Nayar
Student Outreach Coordinator, Recruiter
Satjeet is currently pursuing a double-major in Psychology and Religious Studies at NYU. She has been a part of the SAMAR family for over two years and has enjoyed creating diverse marketing materials, organizing events and developing new training and educational programs to increase awareness about the need for marrow donors.
Kunal Oak
Recruiter
Kunal has been part of the SAMAR family for nearly two years working in the office as well as staffing drives all over the tri-state area. He is an NYU graduate with a B.A. in Psychology, with hopes of attending medical school.
